What is golfer’s elbow and how do you treat it?

Posted on: 22 January, 2017

Medial epicondylitis or Golfer’s Elbow is caused by inflammation in the tendons that connect the forearm to the elbow. The pain starts on the medial epicondyle, the bony bump on the inside of your elbow, and then can radiate into the forearm.

Golfer’s elbow is typically an overuse injury of the muscles in your forearm. The muscles that are for gripping, rotating your arm, and flexing your wrist get pulled and micro tears develop in there tendons.

This condition does not just affect golfers but any repetitive activity involving the hand, wrist, or forearm motions. High risk activities also include tennis, bowling, baseball, painting and frequent screwdriver use.

Treatment of this condition should begin with rest, ice and manual therapy to reduce inflammation. Cold laser and kinesio taping can also be applied to reduce inflammation as well as reduce the muscle spasm in the forearm. An Exercise and stretching regime should then be started to prevent the re occurrence of this condition. We here at Back to Back Chiropractic, your San Jose Chiropractor, we would love to help you resolve this condition today.
